"The Ox Hardy Slate Shiraz is a truly EPIC wine! It’s made in the original 1863 slate fermenters at the old Upper Tintara winery—probably the last of their kind in Australia, maybe even the world. These huge vats, cut from the Willunga Hills and left unused for nearly a century, have been brought back to life by winemaker Andrew Hardy, continuing a family tradition that goes back five generations.
Fermenting in slate gives the wine a character you can feel but can’t quite explain—an energy that makes it unique. In the glass, it’s deep and inky with a purple edge. You’ll get aromas of ripe plums, spice, and a touch of blueberry. On the palate, it’s rich and layered with blackberry, mulberry, and a faint mineral note that seems to echo the slate itself. The texture is plush but structured, with fine tannins and a long, lingering finish.
It’s more than a wine—it’s a story you taste with every glass."
